Annual school readiness program
For the past several years, MaKayla Renee, founder of Hair Like Kayla’s and Renee’s Impact, has been committed to supporting Nashville-area students and families as they prepare for a new school year.
What began as a personal effort through Hair Like Kayla’s has grown each year with the support of volunteers and community partners. In 2026, that work found a permanent home through Renee’s Impact, marking the 4th Annual Back 2 School Bash and a new chapter for the program.
For us, school readiness means more than having a backpack. Through school supplies, books, meals, hygiene essentials, grooming services, and community resources, the Back 2 School Bash helps students begin the year equipped, confident, and supported.
By addressing education and literacy, youth development and empowerment, and food security and basic needs, we help remove barriers for families while creating a positive and memorable start to the school year.
our focus
Back-to-school season can place added financial pressure on families as they work to provide clothing, supplies, meals, personal-care items, and other necessities for their children.
Our focus is to help reduce some of that pressure by bringing practical support and community resources together in one place. Through the Back 2 School Bash, families can access needed items and services at no cost while students are celebrated and encouraged as they prepare for the year ahead.
We want every family we serve to leave feeling supported—and every student to know that their community is invested in their success.
why it matters
The Back 2 School Bash is designed for students and families across the Nashville community. Whether a family needs extra support preparing for the school year or simply wants to enjoy a positive community event before school begins, this event is for them.
We welcome students, parents, and community members who want to connect, receive helpful resources, and celebrate the start of a new school year together. Our goal is to create an environment where families feel supported, students feel encouraged, and the community can come together to invest in the success of our youth.
2026 impact
Our 4th Annual Back 2 School Bash brought together families, volunteers, local businesses, community organizations, and service professionals with one shared goal: making sure students felt supported as they headed back to school.
Together, we served more than 200 people and provided students and families with school supplies, books, meals, hygiene essentials, haircuts, manicures, community resources, and a day filled with encouragement and connection.
More than anything, we wanted families to leave with more than they came with—more resources, more support, and the reminder that their community is invested in their success. None of it would have been possible without the sponsors, donors, volunteers, and community partners who helped bring that vision to life.

The Back 2 School Bash is made possible through the support of community partners, local businesses, and volunteers who believe in investing in students and families. When our community comes together, we are able to create an event that truly supports and uplifts local youth.
Partners contribute in many ways — whether by donating school supplies, sponsoring services like haircuts or manicures, providing food for families, volunteering their time during the event, or contributing financially to help cover event needs. Every contribution plays an important role in helping us make this experience meaningful for the students and families we serve.
Renee’s Impact is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, and community support allows us to continue growing this initiative each year and expanding the impact we can make together.
